Lucki Maine Coons’ Kitten Adoption Process & Pricing

The first step, making sure that you are prepared for the commitment of bringing a Maine Coon kitten into your family and lifestyle. There are a lot of things to consider when adding a Maine Coon to your family. This is not a decision that should be made on a whim. We highly recommend researching the breed and their needs prior to applying for a Maine Coon.

Do you plan to continue socialization? Socializing does not end with the breeder. Maine Coons are a very outgoing, friendly, and social cat breed. Remember your Maine Coon needs and requires daily attention to be a healthy, happy, & flourishing part of your family.

Are you prepared for the financial commitment? A new Maine Coon kitten or retiree will be an added expense to your family. You should prepare to purchase high quality dry and wet food, suitable bowls & fountains, above average sized litter boxes, toys, and quality pet furniture to accommodate for their size. Along with their basic needs, your new Maine Coon will require regular veterinary care.

Veterinarian: Find a suitable veterinarian for your future Maine Coon, preferably one that is familiar with the breed.

Grooming: It is a very important topic especially with long haired pets like Maine Coons. We recommend using a greyhound comb. Our cats are combed at least three times a week and their nails are trimmed every 1-2 weeks. Keeping your future Maine Coon in a routine will make grooming time a breeze.

Step One, Complete our Application

To adopt a Lucki Maine Coon kitten your first step is to complete our kitten application. The application is open to submit when we have kittens that are open for reservation. If you would like, you can submit an application for a future litter. You will receive an email noting that we’ve received your application to respond to. We ask that you respond so we know that you are still interested. Please note, sometimes it may take us a few days to respond to your application.

Step Two, Phone Call Interview

After you receive an email confirming that your application was received and approved we will set up a phone call interview. On this call you can expect for us to go over your application, ask a few more questions about you, and you will get the opportunity to ask us as well.

Step Three, Reserve your New Family Member

The moment you’ve been waiting for, reserving your Lucki Maine Coon kitten. Kittens are available for reservation after 4 weeks of age. Please note, we do work through applications and complete interviews as received. We do allow our current kitten families to pick first if they’ve expressed interest prior to pick day. To reserve your kitten, you will receive our contract to review and fill out then we will take the deposit. The deposit is $600, this will come out of the final price of the kitten. If at anytime we feel that a person is unfit for one of our kittens their deposit will be refunded and their contract will be voided.

Step Four, Set Pickup Arrangements

Lucki Maine Coon kittens can start to go home after 16 weeks. We prefer that pickup/delivery arrangements are made by 12 weeks. Kittens that will be flying to their new homes are only to be flown in cabin with their new owner (You) or us (Lucki Maine Coons). Kittens are not allowed to be flown in cargo or driven ground transport cargo. Kittens will only be released to the approved owner on the signed contract unless approved prior.

Step Five, Prepping for your New Family Member

The special day comes faster than you may think. We recommend pre-scheduling your new Maine Coon kitten’s first vet appointment and purchasing at least one 4lb bag of their kitten food. Purchasing food they are already eating will help ensure a smooth and easy transition at home. We prefer for the kittens to stay on their original food but, we understand if this needs to be changed.

Step Six, Go Home Day!

The day has arrived, your new Maine Coon kitten is coming home. We recommend to have a clean and new carrier just for them for your ride home. On this day you will also need to start their free 30 day insurance plan with Trupanion. At pickup, you will meet your new kitten and their siblings, review health records, and sign your pickup agreement (a summary of the contract you already completed).

Step 7, Continued Support & Love!

We truly care about the wellbeing of our kittens and love each & every one that we get the opportunity to raise in our home. With that being said, the communication does not end when the kitten leaves our home. Essentially the roles will reverse and we will be asking you for photos and updates on our babies! We are always just one phone call, text, or email away if you need anything at all, no matter the time or day. (If you are not planning to stay in touch, we are not the breeder for you.)

How much are Maine Coon kittens?

The price of a Maine Coon kitten is going to vary depending on the breeder you choose. When you decide to bring a Maine Coon kitten into your family, there are many things to consider beyond the price. Our price point reflects the time, money, care, and love that is invested in all of our Maine Coon kittens as well as our wonderful health guarantee & our FIP clause. In general, in the United States the average price range for a purebred Maine Coon kitten is $2,500-$6,000+ . Many breeders also charge more for specific coat coloring, polydactylism, gender, and eye color. Our kittens are all the same price regardless of gender, coat color, or polydactylism.

What is included in the price of our Maine Coon kittens? In 2025, our pedigree Maine Coon kittens will be $3,000 regardless of gender, coat color, or polydactylism.

Health Guarantee | Maintaining Pet Insurance

Lucki Maine Coons has partnered with Trupanion to provide the first 30 days of coverage for free without having to sign up for a plan. We do send information about Trupanion home with our kittens. If you decide to continue with Trupanion from our kitten offer, you are locked in at the kitten rate. Also with Trupanion there are no waiting periods! Once you’ve met the deductible, Trupanion covers 90% of the condition related expenses. We require our kitten families to maintain a pet insurance policy for at least the first five years of life while the kitten is under our guarantee. It’s important to note, this insurance policy does not have to be with Trupanion and we, Lucki Maine Coons, do not make any profit from this.
