Seeing Double, Maine Coon Pairs
Double the floof, double the fun! Maine Coons are a very social, active, and outgoing cat breed. It’s no wonder that most Maine Coons do better in pairs with other feline companions. When looking into families that are interested in our kittens, we do ask if you have other cats. The reasoning to this may be for more than you think, we do prefer for our kittens to go to homes with another cat. Since Maine Coons are very social cats, they may get lonely being the only cat in the house especially if their owner works outside of the home during the day.
Maine Coons are known for their friendly personalities, striking looks, and intelligence but did you know that having two of these majestic cats can enhance your experience of the lovely breed even more? In this we will share a few reasons as to why two Maine Coons may be better than one!
Companionship, Socialization, & Easier Adjustment
Maine Coons are inherently social animals that generally enjoy the company of other animals, especially other felines. Having two in your home means that they will have a companion and will keep each other company, reducing the feelings of loneliness when you’re not home. They will likely groom each other, play together, and form a very strong bond that enriches their lives. Bringing two Maine Coons into your home means that they will have a long term companionship. Who doesn’t want to watch two floof balls run around their home?
When you bring two Maine Coon kittens into your home from the same breeder, you skip the introductions. We prefer to send two kittens home together as it reduces the stress on the kittens and the family. The kittens have each other to comfort in their new environment. Kittens that have been raised together will not need introductions as they are already comfortable and familiar with each other. The kittens will be able to be “quarantined ” and introduced to your home together.
Playtime Galore & Learning Behaviors
Maine Coons, especially kittens are very playful and energetic, having a playmate can provide endless entertainment for them. Watching them engage in their playful antics, share toys, and chase each other is not only delightful but also ensures that they will get the exercise they need. It will be double the fun!
Younger cats & kittens learn a lot from each other. You may notice when one cat explores a new toy or thing, the other cat will often follow suit. This is a shared learning experience that can help both cats to develop their skills and confidence, which can make them more well-rounded pets.
Reduced Destructive Behavior
This topic kind of goes with the above. When left alone, a bored cat may resort to destructive behavior. This could include scratching furniture or knocking things over. Two Maine Coons can keep each other entertained which should reduce the likelihood of destructive behavior. Their interactions provide mental stimulation, ensuring they stay engaged and happy. A lonely cat tends to be a bored cat, and neither are going to be very happy.
Double the Floof, Double the Cost
It is important to take into account the added cost of bringing two Maine Coon kittens into your home. Owning two Maine Coons will bring higher costs for food, remember Maine Coon kittens eat a lot! It will also bring higher costs for litter, veterinary care, grooming, etc. Owning two Maine Coon kittens is double the floof and also double the maintenance. While Maine Coons may benefit from having a feline companion, whether or not they are better in pairs depends on your ability to meet their needs.
Having two kittens means that you will need to dedicate more time to their daily needs like playtime, social interactions, and grooming. You will also need to ensure that you have enough space in your home for both of the Maine Coon kittens to live and grow up comfortably. This is definitely something to keep in mind if you are considering bringing two into your life.
Shared Resources
Speaking of double the cost, they can share some items such as toys, scratching posts, and cozy spots to nap. (Though they might not want to share their favorite things or places) Generally speaking, cats that are raised with other cats tend to be less likely to become territorial. This is because they are accustomed to sharing their space with a companion.
Our “Doubles”, Littermates & Pairs
We have several pairs of littermates that are enjoying life together, forever. It’s so fun to watch siblings grow up together and continue to build the tight bond they have. In addition to littermates, we have several families that have decided to add another Maine Coon kitten to their family a bit later. Most of these have an age gap of a few months to one year, though they are just as bonded as siblings! If you asked the families that have pairs, they’d likely say that the cats rule their home. Not only is it fun for the kittens to be together, they also bring their families endless entertainment!
